Christmas Stocking – Free Knitting Pattern

Hello

I wanted to make a very simple Christmas Stocking, one that I could knit in just a couple of hours, because I am hoping to be able to make enough of these to put some lollies and treats into for Christmas gifts for family and friends.  Yes, some of them may see this blog before then, but (a) I may not get many finished; and (b) these aren’t their main gifts so too bad if there is a surprise blown here somewhere!  I looked around for a pattern but didn’t find anything that quite fit my requirement and so I have written my own – and am happy to share.  Let me know if you give this a try and find any mistakes or have any questions!  I might turn this into a PDF pattern and upload it onto Craftsy and Ravelry soon too, so that it can be shared with others.

The stocking is approximately 16cm long (just over 6 inches) and knitted in 8 ply (double knit, sport weight) acrylic yarn, using 4mm needles (UK size 8, US size 6).  It is made in two pieces which were then sewn together with a wool needle and leftover yarn, right sides together (inside out) as you sew, to hide the seam.  Then flip right side out and voila, a little Christmas sock ready to be filled.  If you wanted you could add a little loop to the top and hang it somewhere for Santa Claus – perhaps even on a tree, although you wouldn’t want to fill it with anything too heavy if you did that!
